Cedar, Steel, or Vinyl? Picking a Fence That Fits Your Tulsa Yard

Every fence estimate we write starts with the same question: what matters most to you — privacy, lifespan, upkeep, or budget? No single material wins all four, so here is the honest version of the conversation we have on the walk-through.

Western red cedar

Cedar is the Tulsa favorite for a reason. It comes off the truck warm and full of character, weathers to a soft driftwood grey, and gives you full privacy board-to-board. The trade is upkeep: plan on a restain every three to four years to hold color, and expect fifteen to twenty years of life. If you want a fence you notice from the patio, cedar is it.

Ornamental steel

Powder-coated steel gives you the wrought-iron look without the rust or the repainting. You see through it to the landscape, it meets pool-barrier code, and it shrugs off thirty-plus years with almost no maintenance. It is not a privacy fence — it is the right call for front yards, pool enclosures, and sloped runs where you want the view.

Vinyl

Vinyl is the set-it-and-forget-it option: full privacy or classic picket, no staining, no splinters, wipes clean with a hose. It costs more up front and less over its life, and it lasts twenty-five to thirty years. For a busy household that never wants to think about the fence again, it is hard to beat.

So which one?
